Renowned Comic To Appear at Annual Clambake Event
July 19, 2005 -- WASHINGTON, DC The Family Pride Coalition has announced that renowned comic Kate Clinton will appear at its annual clambake event during its 10th annual Family Week in Provincetown, Mass., July 30-Aug. 6.
Clinton is one the nation’s favorite lesbian comics, and has been a perennial favorite in Provincetown, where she has taught humor writing at the prestigious Fine Arts Work Center. A noted entertainer and writer, she is the author of two books, writes monthly columns for The Advocate and The Progressive and served as a writer for the “Rosie O’Donnell Show.” She also recently completed filming of her one-woman show “Talking a Blue Streak” for hereTV!.
“We’re thrilled to have Kate Clinton join us during our 10th annual Family Week in Provincetown,” said Jennifer Chrisler, executive director of Family Pride. “She has long been committed to equality for the LGBT community, and I know our families will be honored to have an advocate of Kate’s stature joining us for this special event.”
Clinton has been honored by several LGBT organizations, including Lambda Legal’s highest honor, the Liberty Award and a lifetime achievement award from the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, and has donated her time and talent to many more.
Her more than two decades of stand-up material are available on seven comedy collections, including Read These Lips and The Marrying Kind. In addition to her stand-up career, Clinton has also appeared in the film The Secret Lives of Dentists, and is the narrator of Joan E. Biren’s documentary, No Secrets Anymore The Times of Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon.
The clambake dinner is a special event in celebration of Family Pride’s major donors. The dinner, which takes place in a private home, is generously sponsored by the Caldwell-Llewellyn family and Damon Wolf & Ignacio Valdes. All Family Pride major donors are invited to attend, and tickets will be available for new major donors at Family Week.
Family Week activities include workshops and social activities for parents and their children. The Family Pride Coalition has again invited COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere) to offer social and educational programming for youth nine years and older. Some of the additional adventures include whale-watching tours, barbecues, beach parties, a family parade and a family dance.
