FAMILY PRIDE COLLABORATES WITH OUTFEST ON ‘WE ARE DAD’ SCREENING
The Family Pride Coalition is proud to partner with OutFest and the Los Angeles PopLuck Club for the screening of “We Are Dad” at OutFest’s 23rd Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

“We Are Dad” features the family of Steven Lofton and Roger Croteau, two men who were pediatric nurses, before they became foster parents to an ever-growing number of “throwaway” babies who were born HIV positive. The Lofton/Croteau’s were the inaugural recipients of Family Pride’s Families of Courage Award.

When their middle son, Bert, tested negative for the virus, nothing could have prepared Steven and Roger for the heartache they faced when the state decided that Bert could now be adopted by “normal” parents. Amidst the timely and incendiary politics of gay adoption, director Michel Horvat asks “What is a family?” as he documents this courageous family and shares a look at the power of love in the face of adversity and the tremendous effort of one family to stay together.

“We Are Dad” will screen on Thurs., July 15 at 7pm at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. McCadden Place For tickets, call (213) 480-7065 or go to www.outfest.org.

NEW DOCUMENTARY FILM RELEASED ABOUT TRANSSEXUAL PARENTS
“transparent,” is a new documentary film about 19 female-to-male transsexuals living in the United States who have given birth and, in all but a few stories, have gone on to raise their biological children. “transparent” focuses on its subjects’ lives as parents, revealing the diverse ways in which each person reconciles this part of their history - giving birth and being biological mothers - now that they identify as male and are perceived by the world, but only sometimes by their children, as men. The first-person stories in "transparent" explain how changing genders is dealt with and impacts the relationships, if at all, within these families.

The subjects resonate powerfully as “normal” parents and human beings dealing with issues like single parenthood, teen pregnancy and their children’s emotional and physical development.
But through these extraordinary men, the film challenges, like never before, the ways that we relate to one another, particularly within our immediate families, based on gender.

There will be a screening of “transparent” shown at Family Pride’s tenth annual Family Week in Provincetown, MA on Saturday, July 30 at 7:30pm.
