GREETINGS FROM THE FAMILY PRIDE COALITION!

EXCITING HONOREES, NEW ADDITIONS AND OLD FAVORITES AT FAMILY PRIDE COALITION’S 10th ANNUAL FAMILY WEEK IN PROVINCETOWN
The Family Pride Coalition is happy and proud to invite you and yours to the 10th annual Family Week in Provincetown July 30-Aug. 6!

The Family Pride Coalition’s Family Week provides an idyllic opportunity for our children to meet other children with LGBT parents, and for parents to meet other parents and share experiences. Because every family has different needs, several activities are planned for each day – your family’s schedule can be as full of activities or as relaxed as you choose. This year, we will also honor the family of Gillian Pieper and Karen Pike with our fourth annual “Families of Courage” award. The Pieper/Pike family -- which includes Emma, 12; James, 12; and David, 10 -- was featured in the “Postcards from Buster” episode that ignited a national debate after U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings strongly denounced the program because it featured children with two moms.

The Family Pride Coalition has invited COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere) back for another year of exciting programming for youth nine years and older. Together, we provide a large array of family activities appropriate and fun for every age. Registration for Family Week in Provincetown is available at http://www.familypride.org/events/familyweek2005.php.

Corporate sponsors for Family Pride’s 10th annual Family Week include IBM, Capital One, Volvo Cars of North America, Growing Generations, Crew Creative Advertising, WALT DISNEY WORLD ® Resorts, Bay Windows, Cape Air, R Family Vacations and Q Television.

FAMILY PRIDE COLLABORATES WITH OUTFEST ON ‘WE ARE DAD’ SCREENING
The Family Pride Coalition is proud to partner with OutFest and the Los Angeles PopLuck Club for the screening of "We Are Dad" at OutFest’s 23rd Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

"We Are Dad" features the family of Steven Lofton and Roger Croteau, two men who were pediatric nurses, before they became foster parents to an ever-growing number of “throwaway” babies who were born HIV positive. The Lofton/Croteau’s were the inaugural recipients of Family Pride’s Families of Courage Award.

When their middle son, Bert, tested negative for the virus, nothing could have prepared Steven and Roger for the heartache they faced when the state decided that Bert could now be adopted by “normal” parents. Amidst the timely and incendiary politics of gay adoption, director Michel Horvat asks “What is a family?” as he documents this courageous family and shares a look at the power of love in the face of adversity and the tremendous effort of one family to stay together.

"We Are Dad" will screen on Thurs., July 15 at 7pm at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. McCadden Place. For tickets, call (213) 480-7065 or go to www.outfest.org.

LGBT PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN ENCOURAGED TO TAKE PART IN GLSEN SURVEY
LGBT parents and their children are encouraged to take part in a survey created by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Eduation Network (GLSEN), in collaboration with the Family Pride Coalition and COLAGE. The survey contains questions about you, your family and your family's experiences with schools. The survey is completely anonymous -- we do not ask for your name (and please don't put it anywhere in the survey).

Please feel free to skip any question that does not apply to you or that you are not comfortable answering. The survey should take about 30 minutes to complete. Your participation is incredibly valuable, and is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about the survey, you may contact Dr. Joe Kosciw, research director, at jkosciw@glsen.org, or Elizabeth Diaz, research associate, at ediaz@glsen.org.

If you are a parent, please click this link to take the survey: http://websurveyor.net/wsb.dll/24865/glsenfamilies-parent.htm

If you are the child of an LGBT parent or parents AND ARE 13 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, please click this link to take the survey:
