VALUING OUR FAMILIES

Join Family Pride and SunServe this March 24th and 25th for this year’s Valuing Our Families Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL. VOF is a great opportunity to gather as Florida families and friends. At VOF, we’ll discuss topics relevant to the LGBTQ parenting community. We’ll also train participants to stand up for family equality in all aspects of their lives through Family Pride’s groundbreaking and wildly popular OUTSpoken Families speaker’s training. And on Sunday the 25th, we’ll convene for a most important town hall on the issue of gay and lesbian adoption in Florida.
REPEALING THE BAN
Did you know that Florida is the only state with an outright ban on “homosexual” adoption? Despite numerous attempts over the years to repeal the ban and the wisdom of 30 years of social science research and child welfare organizations’ support, Florida perpetuates this injustice year after year. Florida families live in fear that their children may be taken away by the Department of Children and Family Services because they cannot secure the legal relationships they deserve. It is outrageous that any loving family suffer this fear.
Family Pride, SunServe and other local and state organizations are doing their part to end the ban by training Florida families to speak out and by holding this town hall to educate community members about the ban. We need you to do your part, as well.
DO YOUR PART
If you’re a Florida family or a family equality ally in FL, sign up and show up for VOF 2007. It will be a life-changing experience for you and your family. You’ll meet great people, build community, celebrate leaders in our community like Peter Page (from Queer as Folk) and Judy Shepard (mother of slain gay student, Matthew Shepard).
