Family Week 2007:
Frequently Answered Questions

What is Family Week?

Family Week, now in its 12th year, was the outcome of an idea of two amazing gay dads, Tim Fisher and Scott Davenport. For one week during the past 11 summers, LGBTQ parents, their children, extended families, prospective parents, and allies have gathered in Provincetown, MA to celebrate all families, build community power, and become empowered to make change. There are workshops, social gatherings, meals, and much more for all ages.

When is Family Week being held this year?

Family Week 2007 is being held from Saturday July 28th through Saturday August 4th.

I am booking plane tickets, etc. How soon do events start on the 28th and how late do they run on the 4th?

Although this year’s schedule has not been finalized here is what the first and last days of Family Week have looked like in the past: Events on the first Saturday began around dinner time (5pm or so) and the last events occur on Friday evening.

Where do the events take place?

Almost all of the events take place on or around the MacMillian Pier. For a map of Provincetown visit www.ptownchamber.org.

Do you have any recommendations on where my family and I should stay?

The Provincetown Chamber of Commerce website has a listing of Campsites, Hotels, Guesthouses, Cottages, and more in and around Provincetown . Visit www.ptownchamber.org to find a place that is right for you and your family. Please note that Family Pride, COLAGE, and R Family Vacations have no part in providing or finding accommodations for guests coming to Family Week. Also, book early as many places fill up fast.

Is there any cost for Family Week?

We are happy to announce that there will be no registration fees to come, participate and enjoy Family Week in 2007 thanks to Family Pride’s new partnership with R Family Vacations. Some special events, such as a welcome brunch and Circus themed dinner will require tickets. Also, in order to cover materials and travel, COLAGE is charging a nominal fee per child participating in COLAGE programming.

I’m confused about the recent collaboration of Family Pride and R Family Vacations. Can you explain it in a simple way? And what does it mean in regards to COLAGE?

In short, R Family Vacations is now the organization that is planning and putting together Family Week. They will provide family entertainment through such events as beach bonfires, picnics, dances, and themed meals. Family Pride will provide workshops throughout the week to educate and empower attendees in regards to the issues of love, justice, and equality for all families. COLAGE will again provide their invigorating, inspiring, and empowering programming for children grades 3 through 12.

Who comes to Family Week? (My partner and) I don’t have kids, are we welcome?

All are welcome to attend Family Week, no matter if you have children or not or what age those children are. LGBTQ-parented families of all sizes, with children of all ages attend family week, as do their extended families, heterosexual families, prospective parents, and LGBTQ or non-LGBTQ couples and singles.
